Schools have long provided budding journalists with an opportunity to explore a potential profession.  On this page we find that they also have some of the more interesting names.  If you look closely, you'll also find our collector represented early in his career.

Scotia, NY--The Hi-Times
Lewis Songer, our collector, makes an appearance in this Scotia High School newspaper.

Many words are common to newspaper titles--Gazette, Chronicle, News, etc. appear again, and again in the collection.

Sometimes the titles match and we find at least one other Hi Times here, this one at Eagle River High School in Wisconsin.

Cleveland, OH--Lincoln Log
Lincoln High School.  What can one say?

School mascots often influenced their newspapers:

Kansas--The Hawk (Rockhurst College)
Adding universality to the school mascot.  The Hawk was only used as a title for a short time.  The paper was born as The Sentinel and is back to its original title.

Fordham University, NY--The Ram

Cambridge Springs, PA--The Hilltopper
Alliance College no longer exists, but their alumni association web site provides views of their "hilltop".
