The Master List

Lynch created a list of his collection from items #1 to #566. It covers about half of the total mastheads to around the beginning of 1937. There is some overlap between volumes since Lynch added to his scrapbooks more or less as items were accumulated, rather than strictly by date.
The first page gives an idea of how the list was set up. The newspapers are listed in the order they appear and the reference number points to the item's place in the collection. Since the volumes are labeled with their content's number range, it is easy to get to the listed pieces.
It's no surprise that Lynch's home state, though small, has a significant number of entries. Note that item numbers 1-9 were the first he collected, all from the neighborhood he grew up in.
Here's a quiz. What appears to be wrong with this page? And what does it tell us about the collection's relation to American history?

Lynch's list ends with entry 566--Ashland Daily News, Ashland, Pennsylvania, It's dated September18, 1936. That means that nearly half the collection isn't represented in the list. We may have to update the home page as we discover the contents of those five remaining scrapbooks.
