____________________ Alumnus, Trustee Samuel Molinaro quoted in Financial Times St. Bonaventure alumnus and Board of Trustee member Samuel Molinaro, ’80, was quoted in Tuesday’s issue of Financial Times in an article about the impact electronic trading has had on the floor specialists on the New York Stock Exchange. In the article, “LaBranche reviews its options,” the Financial Times reports that LaBranche & Co, the largest firm of market-making specialists on the NYSE, is “reviewing its strategic options amid a dramatic decline in specialists’ business triggered by the rise of automated trading.” In 2005, the New York State Stock Exchange introduced a hybrid market, combining electronic trading with its traditional floor-based model. Financial Times reporters noted that “Sam Molinaro, Bear Stearns’ chief financial officer, told analysts last month that specialist revenues had ‘essentially evaporated’ following the roll-out of the NYSE’s ‘hybrid’ market model.” The entire article is available online. The Bear Stearns Companies is one of the top investment banking, clearing and brokerage firms in the U.S. Molinaro became executive vice president in 2001, and has been chief financial officer since 1996. Printed in 23 cities across the world, the Financial Times newspaper has a circulation of over 440,000 copies worldwide, and a readership of 1.3 million people in more than 110 countries. The University’s Web Presence Advisory Group has been meeting regularly since mid-March to outline and implement a process for redesigning the University’s Web site. The purpose of the redesign is to create a Web site that has a strategic marketing focus — one that is geared primarily toward attracting, informing and serving prospective undergraduate and graduate students. The group’s work is being guided by research and advice from consultants Paskill, Stapleton and Lord. PS&L conducted a series of focus groups with campus constituents in the fall of 2006 to determine needs and concerns with regard to the existing Web presence. Among the first tasks of the Advisory Group was to select a Content Management System (CMS). Following interviews and demonstrations with four CMS providers, the Ektron system was selected. This system is quite versatile and user-friendly, and was most able to address the priorities as determined by the committee. Lessons learned from the use of the existing CMS were a key driver in this selection process. The Advisory Group also outlined a detailed workflow paradigm that will guide the development and maintenance of content for the new Web page. This workflow model builds on the successes of our existing model, and allows for the designation and compensation of content representatives in areas that are currently under-served. In addition, a position in Marketing and Communications was reconfigured to include Web content management as a primary responsibility. The search process for this position is nearing completion. Content from the current site that is specifically geared toward internal audiences has been migrated to my.sbu.edu. The intranet will be used more extensively for internal documents and materials and, once the redesign is complete, we will work to enhance the functionality of the intranet. While the previous redesign took 18 months, the Advisory Group has outlined an aggressive plan to accomplish this redesign in six months. The new Web site will be unveiled to the community in December. In the meantime, additional enhancements to the existing front page at www.sbu.edu are also being accomplished to lend critical Web-based support to the recruiting process for the fall of 2008. Many of these enhancements will also directly translate to the new page. Questions about this project or the work of the Web Presence Advisory Group may be directed to one of the co-chairs, Dr. Emily Sinsabaugh (esinsaba@sbu.edu) or Michael Hoffman (mhoffma@sbu.edu).
